Can The Us Finally Get A Seeding For The 2010 World Cup Draw?
This is basically what will determine how hard the US’s competition will be in the WC next year, and it could determine the US’s outlook for the three years after the World Cup based on how they do. Mexico has not won the Gold Cup for 6 years and has not beaten the US for four. The US’s FIFA World Ranking is higher than Mexico’s, yet besides all of this, Mexico gets the seeding and thus, the easier group. Just to show an example: in 06, the US did not get the seed and came up with Italy, the Czechs, and Ghana. Mexico got the seed and came up with Portugal, Iran, and Angola. There’s a big difference there. As expected, the US did not go through while Mexico did.
Maybe, their best possible ranking if they had won the Confederations Cup would have been 9th, so it will depend on actual ranking when the seedings are announced (I’m not sure when this is) and whether all of the teams above them qualify for the world cup (which does seem likely). It looks as though Russia is the team they are particularly scrapping for a place with. I have a feeling that they will just miss out.
well you can’t really base things on what a team’s record is against another team or about a performance on just one tournament
and in 06 Mexico looked really good better then the US and they deserved it and i have no idea why Mexico is looking so bad this year since they apparently have the talent and if mexico can pull their stuff together i think they iwll do some damage the rest of the year and next year during the world cup
they dont just give seedings on current form.
they seed you based on past performances at the world cup.
although the US made the quarters once, they generally dont make it past the first round.
the US will have to earn a seeding place just like everyone else.
