Here put simply is the differences between Plasma and LCD
    LCD’s: Higher resolution (Sharper),brighter, non-reflective.
PLASMA: Faster processor for movement, (Smoother images) more natural colours (because of higher contrasts),and 3 dimensional look.
Most people are buying LCDs, as with HD TV they look that much sharper, etc. If you are a sports fanatic, recommend Plasma still, because of lots of movement, but for general TV / Dvds and gaming, LCD. Follow the trend!
Both are great technologies, just different! Similar prices across the board too.
It seems that no matter who you talk too, or read reviews about, Plasma still comes up with the overall best picture, but most people would rather have Sharper Image, and Non-Reflective screen, than a more Realistic Image with Smoother Movement?!?!
    Recommend: Sony/Samsung/Sharp LCDs. Panasonic/Pioneer/Samsung plasmas.
My pick at the moment for one of the best panels, which has been selling extremely well since been released, is the Panasonic Plasma’s with the Anti-Glare screens! Best of everything. Plus they have just released this with the Full HD 1080p resolution, in the 50″ size! Lookout LCD, plasma is back!
Hope this helps, and all the best!

    LCD for longer life.
    Plasma for wider viewing angle.
If you will have people sitting off to the sides of the screen (ie: not in a narrow cone in front of the screen) then a plasma may be better.
BUT a plasma screen will dim more and look worse over time (like a fluorescent light bulb)
LCD’s last longer (nearly forever) but if you are off to the side they are harder to view.

My own choice is Sony Flat Panel LCD .

Among the 40″ LCDs, go with JVC or Sony. Among the 55+” plasmas, go with Panasonic or Hitachi. These were the highest rated by Consumer Reports.

Plasmas give better picture initially but dim over time (about 50% over 10 years). The first dude was correct about the viewing angles. I personally like plasma better because I will get a new TV about every 5-6 years as things get better but if you plan on keeping it for longer than that I would get an LCD. Also keep in mind that if you don’t have to hang it on the wall DLPs are a good choice. They weigh less, cost less and with the new LED bulbs they look just as good. They are only about 10-14″ deep so they don’t really take up any more room than an LCD or Plasma if you are using a stand. I have put in a link below. Good luck.

    Plasma wins, hands down.

LCD. Color isn’t as bright, but it uses less energy and zero burn in issues. When the TV is alone at your house, you won’t even tell the difference about the contrast between plasma vs LCD. HD picture is super sharp too.
Much better choice especially if you’re going to play any video games or DVDs.
