How Do I Keep My Long-distance Relationship Alive?

I have been in this relationship for over two months now; he lives in Canada and I live in the USA, so we are about 500 miles apart. He’s coming down to visit me for about 5 days in July. Unfortunately we’re very limited during the majority of the year; we will be seeing one another for about 1 week every two months, and then I will have mid-May through late August living with him. This will be the case for the next 4 years (since he lives and works in Canada and I am going to college in NYC).
What sort of little things can I do to keep things going? We email often, and talk on the phone every day. We send e-cards sometimes. What other little things can we do to keep the relationship strong and just keep it from feeling strained?

Send food packages, you are the woman. He may think of things to send you in a package, usable things, not an outright gift. Send the package, he may appreciate, see if he responds with something. If the relationship becomes strained, it is because of demands sometimes. If he doesn’t reciprocate you can’t demand anything. Maybe your communication is all he can handle, although if you want to, send the packages to show you care.

use Skype, so you both can see each other almost every day. Long distance relationship is not easy… but it’s fun. Every time you meet each other, it’s kind of honeymoon.

Don’t forget snail mail. We tend to get way from the personal things like letters and cards. It is really nice to receive a hand written letter in this day and time. Also a card bought at the store that you write in is so much better than an e-card. Text messaging is always nice for a quick I miss you or how’s your day going. I still think sending things like homemade cookies or pictures through regular mail will be a good thing.
