I Am Hooking Up My New Flat Screen Tv, What Do I Really Need?
I have cable TV , what kind of cables for the back do I really need when I am mounting and hooking up the TV. They are trying to push all these different ones on me audio, video, optic. What does it all mean, I just want good TV. Can I get some help on this so I don’t get ripped off buying something I don’t need. Thanks

i have a large flat screen tv and am putting it on the wall. but you will be able to see the cables for the sky and dvd player, so does anyone have any ideas as to how i can do this. i dont obviously want to put thew sky and dvd on the wall so can please help or advise

The very first and simple step is to check whether your TV still displays menus after the picture is gone. For example, press the volume up button. If you do not see the volume bar, most likely your TV has a problem with display circuitry (TV has to display menus even if there is no external video feed). If you see the menus, start playing with the signal settings. Make sure that your TV is compatible with the signal source (like SD TV will not show 1080p video) and all cables plugged correctly. But it fails the “menu test”, it may need to see a tech. If the picture is on for some time after you power on the set and then goes away at some point, most likely, it’s either power supply or backlight (in LCD TVs) failure.
How Are You Running Av/hdmi Cables Behind Dry Wall From Your Flat Panel Tv To Your Receiver, Dvd Player, Etc?
Do you just create an opening in the dry wall enough to put the cables through and send them through and out from below? I have to run HD av cables from the tv to receiver and an hdmi cable from the tv to the dvd player behind the dry wall.
Or do you install some type of junction box put the the cables through?

I have a Hd Flatscreeen tv with freeview built in works perfect then my xbox connects to my tv via hd cables to the pr pb y etc works perfect… i have just bought a Philips home theartre system connected it up like says in manuel and when i play a dvd it sounds awsome. but cant get my tv/xbox through the surround speakers. i have a hdmi cable running from my dvd/home theartre system into my tv. speakers are all connected as the dvd works perfect. then someone said connect red and white wires from tv to the dvd/home thearte system . done this and i still cant get xbox to work but then i tested the tv and i was watching a freeview channel and sound was coming out the tv as per normal turned on the surround sound and itv1 started playing through surround sound . the guy at currys says all i needed was hdmi lead and all would work but it does not please help…. have i connected wrong ? i know i do not have a optical connection on home theatre system but i just want sound ?
