My Philips 32inch Ambi Light Flat Screen Tv Has 2 Usb Ports. How Do You Use Them?

I have tried plugging in my portable hard drive (Western Digital Passport Drive) and it recognizes the folders but not the media files. Does anyone know if there is a special kind of codec for playing media files on the TV’s or if there is a conversion program to make the media files compatible?
